'Twilight' the new 'Gone With the Wind?'

David A. Slade, director of "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is living and breathing the movie. Yesterday, he wrote:

"As I sit here cutting I find out that I am going to miss an exhibit of one of my favourite artists Jeremy Fish."

He had already noted:

"Working Sunday, battle sequences coming together, first half of film feeling very emotional, still early days."

Post-production on a movie can take longer than shooting it. Half a million feet of film were shot on “Gone With the Wind,” edited down to about 20,000. Clearly the “Twilight” films would involve less, and the movies are shorter, but the math gives you an idea of what a director and editor face during post-production.

It’s probably a little too easy to compare the “Twilight” movies to “Gone With the Wind,” but there are real similarities, particularly in terms of the avid interest by the predominantly female fans. And the “Twilight” movies are taking up as much of the principals' lives. After an extensive period of development, script rewrites and pre-production, “Gone With the Wind” was in principal photography for six months, during which time they went through no fewer than four directors. The finished film was roughly twice the length of a standard “A” feature of the time. After approximately nine months of total shooting, Summit Entertainment has released two movies and has a third in post-production. Three directors have already been involved.

The authors of both “Twilight” and “Gone With the Wind” were attractive housewives who came out of nowhere insofar as the literary world was concerned. Margaret Mitchell, author of “Gone With the Wind,” had been a journalist, but had never written a novel. She was only in her thirties when she wrote what would become one of the bestselling books of all time and earn her a Pulitzer Prize. Mitchell was a journalist recuperating from a broken ankle when she wrote her only novel.

Meyer was thirty when she published the first of her “Twilight” novels. She has publicly stated on numerous occasions that the idea for the first novel came to her in a dream, and she wrote “Twilight” in one summer, then rapidly obtained a literary agent who had a book deal within a month.

Readers and filmgoers invested emotionally in the stories and characters in both cases. Twihards often identify themselves as “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob.” “Gone With the Wind” readers and moviegoers debated (often still debate) whether or not Scarlett O’Hara is a strong female protagonist or just a bitch, and whether they like the dashing, macho Rhett over the intellectual, sensitive Ashley.

Margaret Mitchell never wrote a sequel to “Gone With the Wind,” but then the one novel is well over a thousand pages long.

Both “Gone With the Wind” and “Twilight” were produced by “mini-majors.” David O. Selznick, producer of “Gone With the Wind,” formed his own studio after years working first at RKO, where he produced, among others, “King Kong,” and then MGM, the biggest and most prestigious of the studios during Hollywood’s “golden age.” He bought the rights to the novel “Gone With the Wind” for a record-breaking $50 thousand during the Great Depression. Selznick International did not have the resources to make and market the film on its own, and besides, it was clear that the majority of the novel’s fans wanted Clark Gable for the role of Rhett Butler. Gable was under contract to MGM, and so Selznick had to make a deal with his father-in-law and former employer, Louis B. Mayer.

Adam Lambert Makes A Bid For 'Eclipse' Soundtrack

'Suburban Decay' didn't make it onto his album, but Lambert thinks it would fit the 'Twilight' sequel.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello

Adam Lambert's "Time for Miracles" has already been featured on the soundtrack for "2012." But the "American Idol" runner-up is already thinking about having a song accompany another potential blockbuster: "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."

Lambert thinks "Suburban Decay," a track produced by Rob Cavallo that didn't make it onto For Your Entertainment, should find a new home on the June 2010 movie's soundtrack.

"It's a great song and I hope to perform it someday, and I think it will find a home, on a soundtrack or something ... maybe 'Twilight,' " he told MTV News. "It just didn't quite fit [in my album]. It's very theatrical. ... It's very campy, and it was just a bit too campy for the album as a big picture."

Although the vibe was all wrong for his album, it might be perfect to score the intensifying love triangle between Bella, Jacob and Edward. "Hey, 'Eclipse' ... Want my song? It's kind of about vampires," he offered, noting a verse about "bloodlust."

"Voodoo" is another song that fans heard about earlier this year but didn't make the cut for Lambert's major-label debut. "Again because we only had so many tracks — that's one I do wish we got on the album," he said. "But I didn't want to get rid of any of the other ones. I believe in all the songs. It's real sexy, kind of vibey dark disco ... more industrial."

Taylor's Favorite in Eclipse is the Tent scene

It's perfect because Twilight develops Edward and Bella's relationship. New Moon develops Jacob and Bella's. And the three of them are physically together in Eclipse, which is really, really fun because these two guys who really, really hate each other are mortal enemies forced to join forces to protect the girl they love.
My favorite scene in the entire franchise, the entire series, is the tent scene. So to film that scene was really great.

What is in the tent scene? !? If you can't stand the suspense, then read the book. If you're lazy to read, then you have to wait for June 30, 2010. That's when the movie will be shown.

Ashley Greene: 'Filming Twilight Eclipse Renewed My Martial Arts Passion'
She speaks about fighting boys...
Friday 27th Nov 2009

Ashley Greene has revealed how filming The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has renewed her interest in martial arts.

The 22-year-old actress, who plays vampire Alice Cullen, is involved in a series of fight scenes in the movie, which is due out next summer.

In an interview with OK!, Greene said she was first introduced to martial arts as a child and believed it was a good form of self-defence.

"I started doing martial arts when I was really young and I ended up sparring with boys instead of girls because I was that into it and I didn't want to beat up the girls," she said.

“It's a fun thing and I've always been really athletic."

Greene added: “I'm definitely going to get more involved in it. When we were filming Eclipse we had fight training for about six weeks, so that kind of re-sparked that bug.

“I had a personal trainer on top of that and they had us do mixed martial arts fighting as well."

Greene can currently be seen in the second installment of the vampire saga, New Moon.

How long will Eclipse Run?

2 Hours, 3 hours? I say make it as long as needs to be. I wouldn't mind sitting through the whole movie for a day if only to see the characters come alive. I bet all twilighters would do too. Here's what they have to say...
YES YES!!! MAKE IT AS LONG AS IT NEEDS TO BE BUT MAKE SURE THESE THINGS ARE ON IT!!! 3 HOURS 4 HOURS?? NO PROBLEM I WILL SIT THERE WITHOUT A SINGLE YAWN!!! NOT 2 HRS!! THATS JUST NOT ENOUGH FOR ALL THE DETAILS! - anonymous

I know the movies are to short. I am worried that Breaking Dawn will be missing parts if they try to make it shorter even if they make 2 movies out of it. They are leaving a good bit out of the movies. I would sit through a 4 hour movie I did for Titantic.-anonymous

New Moon was awesome But it felt REALLY rushed. It moved really fast and still skiped over some things that I would have liked to see. I definatley agree that it should be AT LEAST an hour longer. I wouldn't mind sitting through a 4 hour movie either... As long as they have an intermission in the middle of it. I wouldn't want to miss any of it to get up and use the restroom. - jacqui

With Eclipse coming out in a short 7 months, often the question is asked, "How long is Eclipse?" We hope to answer that in the following article:

While New Moon only just graced the big screens last week, Twi hards are eagerly awaiting the 3rd installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse. While Twilight ran a total of 122 minutes, New Moon ran only 8 minutes longer at 130 minutes. For such a detailed saga (similar to Lord of the Rings) these movies need more time. I don't know about you all, but I am willing to sit for longer, even 3 hours wouldn't make me flinch. We expected Chris Weitz with New Moon to be willing to make a longer movie, as he needed to properly do several "legs" and fix issues from Twilight, however, he kept that 2 hours as his limit as well.

David Slade, director of Eclipse, needs to take several things as well, into consideration about Eclipse (and be willing to make it longer!) to get us back on track with the saga. Some of the things needed to be kept in mind are:

1) There is more of a focus on the supernatural elements of vampires and werewolves. It is here in Eclipse that Stephenie Meyer finally delves into the history of her creatures and how they fit into the world as we know it. People need to see this and have a perfect understanding of it. It is vital to continuing the Twilight Saga story.

2) Much of Eclipse is comprised from the amount of time Stephenie Meyer spends on explaining the backstories of various characters. It is in Eclipse that we learn the reason why vampires and werewolves hate each other, the history of the Cullen family, Jasper's story, gain a deeper understanding of the vampires and their world, and the world of the werewolves. Again, through much of the previous two movies this element has been neglected and new people being introduced to the saga are getting lost, confused, and misunderstand (because they have yet to read the books...if they ever will) and so the deeper meaning of the saga is lost for forever. Don't skip this element!

3) Victoria's newborn vampire army is also crucial to Eclipse. The strength of newborn vampires in the Twilight Saga are significantly more powerful than your average or older vampire, but also more unreliable as they have yet not learned how to control themselves. Gaining this knowledge can make or break the rest/last half of the movie.

4) The final battle is the ultimate climax. It is the no-holds-barred epic battle between the Cullen family with their werewolf allies against Victoria and her newborn vampire army. This is intense and a must do (well done too, I might add!). This also with the simultaneous issue back at Bella, Jacob, Seth, and Edward's camp will have the audience raptured. If done right.

5) The tent scene(s) as mentioned above needs to have plenty of time to truly show the issue and fight over Bella. The tent scene(s) is the ultimate show of what is going on between the two sets of relationships.

6) Bella and Jacob VS Bella and Edward, however, lasts longer than the tent scene(s). It needs to be shown throughout the entire movie and well. David Slade needs to show how Bella and Jacob have a true love for each other that rests of them being themselves and secure and strong together. Bella and Edward depends on a mystical love/lust, Bella needing to change to be with Edward, and her worry whenever she is with him (relationship wise and physically). The differences need to be played against each other so that it is understood what Bella is asking to choose between and what
she will ultimately choose.

Overall, Eclipse, just as New Moon should have been, should be about 4 hours, however, if scripted well it could be pulled off beautifully in about 3 hours. As it gets closer I will continue to pray that it is not just again 2 hours long. Because if that be the case, then the Twilight Saga will no longer be the Twilight Saga.

Leah talks about beauty secrets!!!

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's Julia Jones talks beauty products, beauty advice, and Eclipse!
In this interview, Julia talks beauty products, beauty advice, and of course, Eclipse!
What is your daily beauty regimen?
Julia: It's pretty basic. I have very sensitive skin and I've found that less is more. I wash my face with Dove soap, put on Neutrogena Ultra Sheer sunscreen with 30 spf, and a little makeup.

Is it different when filming?
Julia: When I'm filming, I just wash my face and use sunscreen. The biggest difference is that makeup remover becomes a big part of my regimen. Pond's has great wet cleansing towelettes for that, but I didn't have any in Canada so I found Chamomile and Green Tea eye makeup remover by earthscience.

What are your favorite products for hair, skin, makeup?
Julia: I recently got a Bespoke Labs Evolution blow dryer that I love. It's really light and ionic/ceramic. I use Chanel blush and mascara, Smith's Rosebud salve and sometimes cle de peau coverup. Shiseido makes these great blotting papers for when it's really hot out or when I've been running around and sweating.
What is the best beauty advice you've ever been given?
Julia: One of my modeling bookers told me that the most important thing is to try to be vigilant about taking care of yourself. Get sleep, don't be afraid to trim your hair even if you're trying to grow it out, don't bite your fingernails, and stay in shape. A lot of it is in the little things. If you feel good, you're going to look good.

What is your fitness regimen?
Julia: When I'm in LA, I try to run the canyons or play tennis with friends a few times a week. I've tried working out with a trainer and going to the gym, but I'd just much rather be outside.

Who is your personal beauty icon?
Julia: My friend and mentor Meagan Julian. She hardly ever wears makeup, and always looks so effortlessly put together.

Do you have anything in common with your Eclipse character, Leah?
Julia: I have always been really athletic and loved hanging out and competing with the boys growing up. Also, I think we're both independent, strong willed, and stubborn.

What drew you to her role?
Julia: Leah is full of contradictions, which I love. She's mean and tortured and she can be very unpleasant, but she's really just in a lot of pain and she can't bring herself to ask for help, so instead she pushes everyone away. I was attracted to playing with those layers because it's a very common disposition I think, and people going through that are so often misunderstood.

Who would you love to work with in the future?
Julia: Kevin Spacey, Jessica Lange, Paul Greengrass, Woody Allen, Mike Nichols.

Would you like to send a message to fans about beauty/self confidence?
Julia: No one is perfect and everyone wishes they could change something about themselves. If you're healthy and you gravitate towards people and situations where you feel like you can be yourself, you have a huge advantage. I think that's where beauty and self confidence originate.

See Eclipse Video Here!

Don't get rattled with the video. This was just made by a fan. It's one of the first videos made by twilight fanatics. Of course, we would all be waiting for the real thing. For sure it will be shown, when the new moon brouhaha dies out.

Synopsis: Eclipse

If you have read the book, watching the movie would be like seeing the characters come to life. You can actually critique the movie if it is true to the novel. Reading the book is like travelling with the main characters and reeling in their emotions. True, it would take longer than watching the movie, but the journey is always worth it.

This novel is better than "New Moon". There is a lot of action and some characters are developed.

Synopsis:

"Bella?"

Edward's soft voice came from behind me. I turned to see him spring lightly up the porch steps, his hair windblown from running. He pulled me into his arms at once, just like he had in the parking lot, and kissed me again.

This kiss frightened me. There was too much tension, too strong an edge to the way his lips crushed mine—like he was afraid we had only so much time left to us.

* * *

As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob—knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

Following the international bestsellers "Twilight" and "New Moon", "Eclipse" is the much-anticipated third book in Stephenie Meyer's captivating saga of vampire romance.
